Lake Norman Hyundai expansion project still stalled in Cornelius

CORNELIUS — A car dealership on Monday night received more time to alter the design of a planned major expansion along Interstate 77, as members of the town Board of Commissioners still apparently are unsatisfied with the looks of the proposed project.

The plan, filed with the town by Lake Norman Hyundai, requires a rezoning to build a 23,169-square-foot sales and service building with a parking lot for 362 vehicles on a 5.9-acre parcel on an I-77 access road. It received a frosty reception from a 3-1 majority of the town board and Mayor Lynette Rinker on March 4, and was deferred until Monday.

At that March 4 meeting, the objecting town officials said they didn’t like the appearance of the project.

On Monday, the board kicked its decision on the car dealership’s proposal forward one more time to April 22 “to allow the architect to redesign the building and site layout,” according to Wayne Herron, planning director for the town of .
