HUNTERSVILLE — The always hopping Planning Department of this fast-growing north Mecklenburg County town has added another rezoning application, this one asking to convert a private residence into a home-heating business.

Travis Adams, owner of Travis Heating, applied for a rezoning from residential to commercial for a house at 16130 Old Statesville Road, between Sam Furr and Stumptown roads. The application and site plan were made available for public inspection this week.

Although his 1.18 acre lot is zoned residential, it fronts state Highway 115, known locally as Old Statesville Road, backs up to an active railroad track and is between two former residential lots that have been rezoned highway commercial.

The site plan shows that the lot is also home to a detached garage, shed, new accessory storage building and an expanded set of driveways and turnarounds — all used for business purposes.

The plan and application are under review, and no required action by the town’s appointed Planning Board and elected town Board of Commissioners is scheduled as yet.
