CABARRUS COUNTY – Carolinas HealthCare System on Wednesday held a groundbreaking ceremony for its $20.2 million Carolinas Medical Center Harrisburg campus, at 9592 Rocky River Road.

The 23,689-square-foot healthcare pavilion will have six treatment rooms, one observation room, a full-service imaging center with  CT scanner, ultrasound, digital mammography, X-ray, and a full service laboratory.

Phil Whitesell, a spokesman for Carolinas HealthCare System, said the healthcare pavilion should be open in the first quarter of 2014. Whitesell said he didn’t know who the general contractor is on the pavilion and there was no signage at the site Thursday indicating which company was awarded the project.

Once CMC-Harrisburg is up and running, it will be the sixth healthcare pavilion in the CHS arsenal. The others are in Steele Creek, Waxhaw, Kannapolis, Huntersville and Morrocroft.
