CHARLOTTE — New apartments aren’t the only multifamily projects being permitted during the recent apartment boom. Apartment renovations are also on an upswing.
Since the beginning of the year, Mecklenburg County has issued 56 permits, valued at roughly $206,000, to Houston-based Camden Property Trust, an apartment development and management company, for renovations to four of its Charlotte-area communities. The county permitted renovations on Camden’s Ballantyne, Stonecrest, Sedgebrook and Cottonmills properties.
Camden Ballantyne was the most permitted, receiving 31 permits. Stonecrest was issued 11 permits, Cottonmills received eight, and Sedgebrook was issued six permits.
Will Smith, development manager for Camden, told The Mecklenburg Times in January that Camden is renovating eight of its communities now and has plans this year to work on all the company’s 13 existing communities in the Charlotte area.
