CHARLOTTE — BT’s Burger Joint is building a $500,000, 2,600-square-foot restaurant in the Promenade on Providence shopping center along Ballantyne Commons Parkway.
Construction began Monday. Parker, S.C.-based Precision Building and Consulting is the general contractor.
Brad Smith, president of BT’s, which has only one other location, on South Tryon Street near Lake Wylie, said a lack of burger restaurants in the Promenade on Providence area and its proximity to the office buildings in Ballantyne encouraged him to open another BT’s.
“Promenade is one of the larger retail centers in Charlotte without a burger identity,” he said. “A lot of the restaurants in there are cuisine-specific: Chinese, sushi, Mexican. I don’t know if you can find a burger on a menu anywhere in there.”
Smith, part owner of the Hickory Tavern restaurants, said his HT locations in Ballantyne are the most successful in the chain.
“We have a few (HT) stores around Ballantyne, so it’s chasing a little bit of our own success,” he said.
Smith said he expects the BT’s to open around Christmastime.
He said BT’s is adding a third restaurant, this time in Asheville. It is expected to open Jan. 14.
