CHARLOTTE — About 4.2 acres might be rezoned from residential to commercial to allow retail and/or office space to be built, if a request from Charlotte-based Dixie River Land Co. is approved.

Dixie is asking for two parcels at the intersection of Shopton Road West and Steele Creek Road to be rezoned, according to a request filed with the city.

The land is adjacent to Pappas Properties’ Berewick development near Lake Wylie.

According to the request, up to 35,000 square feet of retail or office space, or a mix of the two, might be built at the site.

A public hearing on the request will be held Dec. 17.
