HARRISBURG — Construction is under way on about 230 homes, priced for around $250,000, at the new Brookedale Commons development.
Miami-based homebuilder Lennar Homes announced the new homes Wednesday, saying Brookedale Commons is expected to open in December.
Jon Hardy, Lennar’s Charlotte division president, said Cabarrus County’s lower tax rate when compared with Mecklenburg County’s was a major reason the company decided to build in Harrisburg.
“This represents part of 700 new homes we’re planning in four communities in the Charlotte market, but there may be no more promising opportunity than Brookedale Commons,” Hardy said in a press release. “The Harrisburg area has so much going for it, with so little competing new home development, that we expect interest in this community to be extremely high.”
In addition to the Harrisburg homes, Lennar has plans to build 400 homes at Carolina Reserve in Indian Land, S.C. Lennar is building another 75 single-family homes and 34 townhomes in Almond Glen in Indian Land.
Lennar also plans to build 138 homes in The Woodlands in Rock Hill, S.C., later this year.
