New Forum unveils ‘green roof’ in Ayersly

AYERSLY – Southwest Charlotte just got a shade greener.

New Forum Inc, the primary developer and property manager of the mixed-use Town of Ayersly neighborhood, has just completed the first green roof in its quadrant of Charlotte.

Designed by Providence Landscape Roof and Overcash & Demmitt Architects, and built by Concorde Construction Co., the $6,000, 600-square-foot roof is atop a courtyard pavilion in Ayersly’s Lofts at Charleston Row, a 98-unit apartment and retail complex.

Green roofs, built to accommodate growing plants, are thought to last longer than traditional roofs, improve air quality and reduce the amount of outdoor heat trapped in urban developments.
