Charlotte foreclosures up 22.7 percent

The number of Charlotte-area homes with a foreclosure filing rose 22.7 percent in the first half of this year versus the same period last year, Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac said this week.

The Charlotte area — defined by RealtyTrac as Charlotte, Concord and Gastonia — had 7,544 properties with a foreclosure filing, or one for every 98 housing units, up from 6,149 properties in the same period last year.

In Mecklenburg County, which was home to the majority of foreclosure filings in the report, there were 4,730 properties with a filing in the first half of 2012, up 11 percent from the same period last year.
