The City of Charlotte is asking for approximately 7 acres to be rezoned from single-family residential to neighborhood services to make way for a new Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police station.
The site is on Central Avenue between Merry Oaks Road and Saint Andrews Home Place. The project would include a 15,500-square-foot police station building and a 1,000-square-foot auxiliary building. The new police station would be called CMPD Eastway Station at 3505 Central Ave. No contractor has been named yet, but Charlotte-based planning consultants Cole-Jenest & Stone have drawn the site plan and are doing design work for the project. A rezoning hearing is set for June 18.
