While foreclosure filings fell 16 percent nationwide in the first quarter of this year versus the same period a year ago, filings rose 20 percent in the Charlotte area, foreclosure-tracking firm RealtyTrac says.
Irvine, Calif.based RealtyTrac said foreclosure filings — default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions — were reported on 3,844 properties in the Charlotte/Concord/Gastonia area in the recent quarter, up from 3,209 in the year-ago quarter.
Nationwide, foreclosure filings were reported on 572,928 properties during the recent quarter.
In March, the Charlotte area had 1,334 filings, an increase of 23.3 percent from March 2011.
Nationally, foreclosure filings fell to 198,853, or 17.1 percent, in March from the same month last year.
