Existing-home sales in North Carolina grew by 22 percent in February from the same month last year, according to a report released Tuesday by the North Carolina Association of Realtors.
But the average selling price fell over the period.
Last month, 5,881 homes sold, up from 4,810 in February 2011. The average price last month was 182,702, down 0.3 percent from 183,260 the same month last year.
The Charlotte area had 1,614 sales in February, up 21 percent from 1,329 the same month last year. The average price in the area was $184,775 in February, an increase of 2.6 percent from $180,036 in February 2011.
Statewide dollar volume was also up in February, to $1.07 billion, an increase of 22 percent from $881.5 million in February 2011.
