Claremont considers $140,000 in park upgrades

Claremont City Council members agreed this week to send an application for a North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund for upgrades at Francis Sigmon Park.

The grant request is for about $70,000.

There is a 50 percent matching requirement for the grant program, bringing the total project cost up to about $140,000.

The upgrades would include a new adult softball field and dugout, new bleachers for the football field, scoreboards, fencing, lights, walking trail, parking and restrooms, according to information from the town.

No contractor has been announced and bids have not yet been sought for the project.

The grant approval process could take up to 90 days.
