Are you mad about Mecklenburg County’s latest revaluation? Feel like doing something about it?
Maybe you should follow the lead of Bob Deaton and Jim Bensman.
Deaton, a Cornelius resident, and Bensman, a Republican Cornelius commissioner, are working on an online revaluation survey for the town’s residents. The survey’s questions focus on, among other things, pre- and post-revaluation prices and whether residents have appealed.
Bensman hooked up with Deaton after the latter held a public meeting at Cornelius Town Hall last week to blast the 2011 revaluation. Deaton, who claims the county has assessed his home far in excess of market value, drafted a resolution for Cornelius and Mecklenburg officials.
Bensman took one look at the resolution and called it a “tea party manifesto that charged the county with everything just short of rape and murder,” making the commissioner sound like he should be a talking head on MSNBC.
Once he’s armed to the teeth with all of that survey data, Deaton is expected to present the survey’s results to Cornelius and Mecklenburg officials and the General Assembly.
