Last week, the county’s tax administration office made a proposal to county commissioners to lower the base rate for assessing the value of single-family homes from $70 to $68 for the 2012 county revaluation.

“It became apparent to us that our home values were still declining,” Brent Weisner, the county’s tax administrator, said. “So we did some calculations to determine what the base rate would need to be to be at market value.”

Commissioners will vote on the proposed schedule of values, including the $68 base rate, at their next meeting Monday.
