Raleigh is No. 1 on the “America’s 50 Best Cities” to live in list, while Charlotte came in at No. 20, according to the rankings, which were published today by Bloomberg Businessweek.
How the report described Charlotte:
A pedestrian-friendly city with a light-rail line that opened in 2007, Charlotte is hip and accessible, with more than 1,000 restaurants, 70 museums and two pro sports teams. It is also home to such companies as Bank of America, Nucor and Duke Energy.
Raleigh, the report said, “sports a high number of bars, restaurants and cultural institutions as well as a thriving social scene, great parks and good schools.” The report also pointed to the research triangle and the universities in the area, saying, “of course, it’s also much more. The city offers a great deal on nights and weekends, from concerts and opera to the 30,000-square-foot State Farmer’s Market. North Carolina’s state capital is tops in our book.”
The other North Carolina cities that made the list and their rankings:

• 37: Durham
• 46: Winston-Salem
