Foreclosure activity declined 36.9 percent in the Charlotte area in August from the same month a year ago, Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac said today.

Foreclosure filings — default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions — were reported on 1,014 Charlotte-area properties, down from 1,608.

One in every 735 housing units had a foreclosure filing this past August.

Charlotte-area foreclosure filings also fell in August from July, dropping 2.97 percent.
