Catawba County won’t rezone landfill

About 47 acres of Catawba County’s landfill will no longer be rezoned to allow for industrial development.

With concerned citizens objecting to the move during a July public hearing, the landfill will be excluded from a rezoning request.

Planning board members did vote 8-0 to recommend to county commissioners that about 609 acres in the 3700 block of Rocky Ford Road be rezoned from residential (R-40) to 321-ED(I), which would make the area a special industrial economic incentive zone.

The properties are also part of the county’s economic development overlay (ED-O) zone.
