Carolinas HealthCare System’s dispute with Mecklenburg County could be headed to court.
CHS said it has initiated legal action as a means to make the county to honor the terms of its contract with the health care system.
The filing comes after Mecklenburg County commissioners decided to end a contract with CHS.
CHS and the county have been at odds over county funding and plans by the health care system to open a Huntersville psychiatric facility. The county has accused CHS of breaching agreements.
The county pays CHS roughly $40 million to run the Carolinas Medical Center-Randolph mental health facility and provide services for the county’s health department.
