As part of the new state of North Carolina budget signed into law last month, the fees for filing a foreclosure case in state courts are higher.
The fee is now doubled from $150 in fiscal 2010 to $300 in fiscal 2011.
In 2010, Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac said, North Carolina had about 40,000 foreclosures, but not all of them had to pay individual court costs.
The state budget estimates about $8.8 million will come from the new foreclosure filing fees.
State lawmakers, apparently, are expecting the number of filings to go down; $8.8 million was also projected for fiscal 2010 when the fee was still $150.
