More than 900 Mecklenburg County nonprofits no longer tax-exempt (access required)

Nearly 1,000 Mecklenburg County nonprofits have lost their tax-exempt status, according to the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS released the list last month. It shows that about 275,000 U.S. organizations are no longer tax-exempt. Of those, more than 6,000 are in North Carolina. And of those, 941 are in Mecklenburg County.
