A Mooresville financial planner has been ordered to stop referring to himself as a certified financial planner.
According to an announcement today from the Washington, D.C.-based Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, the board’s Disciplinary and Ethics Commission has suspended John E. Matheny’s right to use the CFP certification marks for two years.
The suspension followed the board’s investigation of Matheny’s 2009 Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The board said that by filing for bankruptcy, Matheny displayed an inability to manage his own finances “and thus engaged in conduct that reflects adversely on his integrity and fitness” to use the CFP certification marks.
Matheny’s suspension took effect April 25.
