Mecklenburg County foreclosure filings dropped by 23 percent in May compared with a year ago, according to the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts.
There were 659 foreclosure filings in May, down from 858 filings in May 2010 and 6 percent lower than the 704 filings in April.
May had the lowest number of foreclosure filings of any month this year, followed by April.
Statewide, there were 4,456 foreclosure filings in May, down 16.6 percent from 5,343 in May 2010 but up nearly 1 percent from 4,413 in April.
