Charlotte-based Babcock & Wilcox Co. said its joint venture with India-based Thermax has broken ground on a 699,000-square-foot, $160 million boiler-manufacturing plant near Pune, India.
The joint venture, formed in 2010, plans to use the facility to fabricate boilers principally for customers in the Indian market.
The new plant will allow the joint venture to better serve the rapidly growing Indian power market, B&W said.
Plant construction is scheduled for completion in late 2012.
B&W said the joint venture is bidding on large boiler projects in India.
