Charlotte-area construction, mining, logging employment slumps 5 percent

Charlotte-area construction, mining and logging employment fell 5 percent in March from the same month last year, the Associated General Contractors of America said.

The area lost 2,000 jobs over the period, from 37,600 to 35,600.

North Carolina saw a drop of 5,600 construction jobs, or 3 percent, from 173,800 to 168,200.

In construction, mining and logging jobs, the state had a drop of 5,500 jobs, or 3 percent, from 179,400 to 173,900.
