UMAR to open $175,000 independent-living home in Cornelius

United Methodist Agency for the Retarded will open an $175,000 independent living home in Cornelius.

The facility on Zion Avenue will teach residents life skills, such as how to make a home budget and cook healthy meals, so they can be more independent. Residents are slated to move in later this month.

Construction began in September. Mount Zion United Methodist Church donated the land to Huntersville-based UMAR.

The United Methodist Church founded UMAR in 1983.
