Atlanta-based SunTrust Banks today said it has named William Peele president and CEO for the Mecklenburg/South Carolina region.

He succeeds Carl Wicker, who will retire, as previously announced, next week.

Peele will be based in Charlotte.

Peele most recently has served as commercial line of business manager for SunTrust’s Atlanta region.

As of Dec. 31, SunTrust had total assets of $172.9 billion and total deposits of $123 billion.
