The National Board of Examiners in Optometry will expand its Charlotte headquarters by adding the National Center of Clinical Testing in Optometry, the group announced today.
To accommodate the 15,000-square-foot expansion, NBEO will relocate from a portion of the 19th floor of the BB&T building in uptown Charlotte to the entire 20th floor. The new headquarters and testing center space is expected to be operational by September and will create four full-time and another 50 part-time positions.
NBEO develops, administers and scores tests for optometry certification.
“This is an all-around win for Charlotte,” Bob Morgan, Charlotte Chamber of Commerce president, said. “The National Board’s decision to expand their testing facilities here offers exciting possibilities for the city. It furthers our goal of growing the health care and higher-education sectors of our community, while bringing in folks from all over the country on a weekly basis who will be adding to the local economy.”
NBEO relocated its headquarters from Maryland to Charlotte in 2005.
Jim Gambrell with Oakway Properties represented NBEO in the lease negotiations. Ted Lee with Spectrum Properties represented the building’s owner.
