Moody’s affirms highest bond rating for Mecklenburg County

Moody’s Investors Service today affirmed its AAA bond rating for Mecklenburg County.

In a press release, the county said the credit rating agency cited the county’s “healthy financial position despite some use of reserves, positive steps taken to stabilize and improve reserve levels and effective efforts to reduce the county’s above-average debt profile.”

Dena Diorio, Mecklenburg County finance director, said the AAA rating, which is the highest possible, “reflects the favorable steps the county has taken to manage its financial position during difficult economic conditions.”

The county is still waiting on new ratings from Standard & Poor’s and Fitch Ratings.
