Jobs Report: Total Quality Logistics looks to hire 75

Total Quality Logistics Executive Vice President Kerry Byrne

Cincinnati-based Total Quality Logistics announced last month that it has opened a satellite sales office in Charlotte and plans to hire 75 employees through 2012. The 75 employees are on top of 18 who already work in the SouthPark office, according to the truckload freight brokerage firm.

The Charlotte office, at 2101 Rexford Road, opened Jan. 18 with five employees. The Mecklenburg Times asked TQL Executive Vice President Kerry Byrne about the new jobs and what prompted the Charlotte expansion.

As for the 75 positions the company plans to fill through 2012, what types of jobs will those be?

We are hiring entry-level sales candidates for our logistics account executive positions. Our sales employees go through a rigorous six-month training period with a mentor account executive before building a book of business of their own.

What’s the pay range?

Base salary is the mid-$30,000 range. After one to two years of service the top 20 percent of logistics account executives earn $69,900 per year, with average earnings of $44,300 per year. After two to three years of service, the top 20 percent earn $114,600 per year with an average of $65,900 per year.

What prompted the company’s expansion in Charlotte?

Charlotte was an obvious choice in terms of both business expansion and local talent.

Have hiring trends at TQL changed because of the recession?

Not at all. TQL hired 450-plus logistics account executives throughout the U.S. in 2010 while growing sales by 46 percent. We are a growth company with a superior service that our customers and soon-to-be customers find value in.
