Duke posts 23 percent jump in 4Q earnings

Duke Energy Corp. saw a 23 percent increase in earnings in the fourth quarter of 2010 and a 23 percent increase in earnings for all of 2010.

The Charlotte-based company today said that for the three months ending Dec. 31, it earned $427 million, or 32 cents per share, on revenue of $3.4 billion. In the fourth quarter of 2009, the company earned $346 million, or 26 cents per share, on revenue of $3.1 billion.

For 2010, Duke earned $1.3 billion, or $1 per share, on revenue of $14.2 billion. In 2009, the company earned $1.07 billion, or 83 cents per share, on revenue of $12.7 billion.
