Lowe’s Cos. today said it will add more than 275 jobs this year at its customer-support center in Wilkesboro, bringing the total number of jobs at the center to nearly 1,000.
The Mooresville-based home improvement retailer said the number of workers in the Wilkes County center has grown from about 350 employees in January 2010 to more than 700 today. The majority of the employees working in the center live within 50 miles of Wilkesboro, the company said.
The 275 new jobs will bring the center’s employment to more than 975 by the end of the year, Lowe’s said.
The employees in the new positions will help Lowe’s customers who have questions or need assistance with online purchases or service for products such as appliances and outdoor power equipment.
In North Carolina, Lowe’s operates 111 stores and employs nearly 21,000 workers at its stores, distribution centers and customer-support centers.
The company had 2009 sales of $47.2 billion. It has more than 1,725 stores in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
