Charlotte-based DesignLine Corp. said it has entered into a $30 million joint venture with Liberty Automotive to open a production facility in Abu Dhabi, a move that will more than double DesignLine’s work force in Charlotte and New Zealand.
DesignLine, which makes hybrid and electric buses, said the facility is scheduled to open before the end of this year. The new facility will create high-tech, full-time jobs, the company said.
The facility will have the ability to produce 300 buses a year. Projected revenue for the first year is expected to exceed $80 million.
“Impact of these sustainable jobs will be felt significantly throughout the Mecklenburg region of North Carolina and the Canterbury region of New Zealand,” the company said in a news release.
