Charlotte-based Nucor Corp. today said it has been awarded an air-quality permit for an iron-making facility it has planned for Louisiana, paving the way for construction to start.
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality issued the permit for the project, which will be just outside New Orleans in St. James Parish.
Nucor said the issuance of the permit allows it to order equipment and begin construction immediately.
The permit allows for the construction and operation of two plants. Nucor plans to build just one plant initially, with the second to be built later.
The project’s first phase will create 150 permanent Nucor jobs that earn an average salary of $75,000, plus benefits, Nucor said.
Nucor manufactures steel products.
