Charlotte-based Nucor Corp. said Thursday it had earnings of $134.1 million, or 42 cents a share, in 2010, but the company also reported a net loss of $11.4 million, or 4 cents a share, for the fourth quarter of 2010.
The fourth quarter results were impacted by a $10 million charge, or 2 cents a share, for closure costs associated with the decision made in December by a joint venture partner to close a site in western Australia and end the partnership, the company said.
Expenses totaling $9.1 million stemming from the Australian facility also impacted 2010 results.
In 2009, the company, which makes steel products, had a net loss of $293.6 million, or 94 cents a share.
In the fourth quarter of 2009, it had earnings of $58.9 million, or 18 cents a share.
