Squirrel Lake Park to get $784,180 facelift

Squirrel Lake Park in Matthews is slated to be renovated beginning at the end of January.

The $784,180 project will include the addition of restrooms, new playground equipment, more parking spaces, an asphalt connector trail that will run from Pleasant Plains Road through the park to Four Mile Creek Greenway, a handicap accessible fishing pier, a new shelter near the pond and improvements to trails.

The town will use a state Parks and Recreation Trust Fund grant to cover half the costs.

The project is expected to be finished in July.
