Amtrak’s Piedmont midday service between Raleigh and Charlotte will be suspended for two months starting next month so upgrades can be made to the railway.
Service will be suspended from Feb. 14 to April 21. During that period, Friday, Saturday and Sunday service, the Piedmont morning and evening service and the Carolinian morning and evening service will have adjusted schedules.
Norfolk Southern Railway will make track, signal and bridge improvements from Raleigh to Charlotte. Amtrak said the work will result in a smoother ride and improved on-time reliability.
Crews will be working on the railroad Mondays through Thursdays.
