The CEO of Piedmont Natural Gas will undergo elective surgery Jan. 4 for a genetic abnormality in a cerebral blood vessel, the Charlotte-based company announced Thursday.
Thomas Skains, who is also chairman and president of the company, is expected to take three to four weeks to recover.
In his absence, David Dzuricky, senior vice president and chief financial officer, will take over his duties.
Malcolm Everett III, Piedmont’s independent lead director, will be board chairman until Skains returns.
Piedmont distributes natural gas to more than 1 million residential, commercial and industrial utility customers in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
