Construction is expected to begin next year on a $4.5 million new police headquarters in Pineville, Police Chief Rob Merchant said.
Pineville-based Randolph & Son Builders is the contractor on the project, which will consist of the main 24,000-square-foot headquarters and a small building for car maintenance.
“It will give us plenty of room to grow into the future,” Merchant said.
The new headquarters will be built on town-owned property at 427 Main St. next to Jack Hughes Park.
Merchant said the current police headquarters, which is just a few blocks away from where the new one will be built, is in an old, cramped building dating back to the 1960s.
He expects the new headquarters to be finished by late fall and the town to raze the old building to make way for new development.
The Pineville Town Council OK’d the deal in October.
