KBR ‘tops out’ Duke Medicine Cancer Center

Houston-based KBR said has “topped out” the new Duke Medicine Cancer Center in Charlotte.

When a construction project is topped out, it means the highest point of a project has been built.

KBR started work on the cancer center in 2009.

The 267,000 square foot, seven-floor facility is slated to be finished in early 2012.

KBR is also building the 660,000-square-foot, eight-story Duke Medicine Pavilion. Construction on that project began in February. Completion is scheduled for 2013. It will include with 18 operating rooms, 96 critical-care beds, 64 intermediate beds and a new imaging platform.
