Charlotte-Douglas traffic up 9 percent

Year-to-date passenger emplanements at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport have increased 9 percent over the same period last year, according to data from the airport.

To date, 15.8 million passengers have boarded a plane at Charlotte-Douglas in 2010, compared to 14.5 million last year. October accounted for nearly 1.7 million of those passengers this year, up 15 percent over the 1.5 million in 2009.

The average number of daily flights in October 2010 was up 11 percent over 2009, from 625 last year to 695 this year.  5,698 tons of cargo was loaded onto planes at Charlotte-Douglas this October, a 3 percent increase over the 5,511 in October 2009. To date, the airport has seen a 15 percent increase in the amount of cargo loaded onto aircrafts over last year.
