Charlotte-based department story company Belk said today its Nov. 6 semiannual charity sale raised more than $4.75 million for local charities, schools and nonprofits in the company’s 16-state market.

Charities sold tickets for $5 apiece to admit customers to the charity sale, where they were given discounts on Belk items. Charities sold the tickets in advance of the event, with all proceeds ticket sales retained by the charities. Proceeds from tickets sold at Belk stores before and during the event were divided among participating charities and schools.

Belk’s next charity sale is slated for April 16.
