WILMINGTON — Gov. Beverly Perdue says North Carolina’s public colleges and universities are going to have to rely more on the private sector as the state grapples with budget shortfalls.
Perdue visited the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s campus Monday.
She says the university system is a key to the state’s economic growth but the state doesn’t have the money to do everything it wants to now. Perdue says the private sector needs to help pay for research.
UNC Wilmington Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo says marine science research has great potential for industry and job growth.
