CINCINNATI — An Ohio school district has filed a complaint with the state alleging that Duke Energy overbilled the district by more than $500,000 between 2004 and 2008.
A spokesman with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio says the commission received the complaint from Cincinnati Public Schools Friday. It alleges that Duke overcharged the district by $511,765 for electric services at modular units.
Schools use the temporary units while buildings are being renovated.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the district says the issue was found in a routine audit of its energy bills. The newspaper reports Duke previously said it believes the charges were correct.
A message was left Friday for Charlotte-based Duke.
The district is asking that PUCO require the utility to refund the money.
