HIGH POINT — A North Carolina judge has ruled that a law banning most kinds of video sweepstakes machines will go into effect Dec. 1.
The News & Record of Greensboro reported that Guilford County Superior Court Judge Judge John Craig III e-mailed lawyers late Monday with what amounts to a ruling from the bench. Craig asked a pair of special deputy attorneys general who argued the case to write a more formal written order he can edit and sign.
A spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office said the decision is being reviewed.
One of the attorneys for International Internet Technologies and Hest Technologies, Rick Coughlin, had no comment.
Richmond Rep. Melanie Wade Goodwin says she’s worried Craig’s ruling might allow some sort of sweepstakes-style games to continue.
