Changes sought to allow more nightclubs along Central Avenue

At Monday’s City Council meeting, council members will hear public comments on a proposed amendment to the Plaza-Central Pedscape Plan that would reduce the required distance required between bars, nightclubs and lounges and residential zoning districts from 400 feet to 225 feet.

Supporters of the amendment say it would allow for more nightlife establishments within walking distance for Plaza-Central residents.

The Plaza-Central Pedscape Plan was developed for the area along Central Avenue, with boundaries generally formed by Interstate 277 on the west, Independence Boulevard to the south and Nandina Street to the east.
