Charlotte foreclosure filings up 17 percent in 3Q

The Charlotte metropolitan area had 17 percent more foreclosure filings in the third quarter of 2010 than in the same period last year, Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac said today.

There were 4,956 foreclosure filings in the third quarter, or one for every 147 houses in the Charlotte metro area. The third-quarter figures are 15 percent higher than the second quarter, when there were 4,309 filings.

There were 4,231 foreclosure filings in the third quarter of 2009.

In North Carolina, there were 13,180 foreclosure filings in the third quarter, up 9.32 percent from second quarter, when there were 12,056, and 34 percent higher than the third quarter of 2009, when there were 9,818.

Nationwide, there were 930,437 foreclosure filings in the third quarter, or one for every 139 houses. That’s up 3.9 percent from the second quarter, when there were 895,521 foreclosure filings, and down 0.79 percent from third quarter 2009 when there were 937,840 filings.
