ASHEVILLE (AP) – Former President Bill Clinton is visiting Asheville for a campaign event less than two weeks before Election Day.
Clinton will appear alongside Democratic Rep. Heath Shuler this afternoon.
Shuler is locked in an increasingly competitive campaign against Republican challenger Jeff Miller. Clinton’s appearance comes two days after Virginia’s Eric Cantor, the No. 2 Republican in the House, campaigned in the state with Miller.
Clinton and Shuler have been building a relationship since Clinton reached out to the former NFL quarterback when Democrats recruited him to run for Congress in the 2006 election. Shuler endorsed Clinton’s wife in her 2008 White House bid after she won the primary in his district. Clinton attended a fundraiser for Shuler last year.
