Duke launches investigation into e-mails

today said it is reviewing e-mails featured in a news story about the Indiana president of Duke and a former lawyer at the .

The e-mails were part of a story by the Indianapolis Star that looked at the correspondence between President Michael Reed and Scott Storms, who was IURC’s general counsel and later hired by Duke.

A week ago today, Duke placed Storms and Reed on administrative leave.

In a press release today, , president of Charlotte-based Duke, called the e-mails “very concerning.”

The e-mails “will be considered as part of a larger, more comprehensive review,” Rogers said in the press release. “This has my full attention and that of our management team.

“We regret that hiring an attorney from the IURC has raised questions about the manner in which we conduct our business. We will investigate this thoroughly and will take whatever actions are appropriate.”

Duke said it has hired the law firm Gibson Dunn and Crutcher to investigate the “company’s actions related to these matters.”
