Building owners carve up space for business ‘factory’
By Sam Boykin When two of their biggest tenants moved out of their Cornelius office building in the fall of 2009, business partners Dale Tweedy and Jeff Wakeman took a chance. Dividing the vacated space into about 10 smaller offices, they established the Cornelius Business Factory, which focuses on helping established companies looking to expand. Tweedy said the venture differs from a typical business incubator that assists start-ups. “This is a business-acceleration program,” Tweedy said. “We want companies that are adding employees, locations and handling fast growth curves.” The program includes hour-long monthly sessions on strategies, peer reviews, workshops and events featuring guest speakers.
